Ben Battist

In 2003, Ben was appointed Senior Town Planner in a prominent Brisbane based consultancy where he was later made an Associate Director. During this period, he undertook further studies in Property Economics specialising in Property Development. Whilst continuing work in development assessment and planning appeals, Ben was extensively involved in the implementation of the Industry Involvement in Development Assessment (IIDA) Pilot Program which has now been formally implemented by Brisbane City Council through the Risk Smart Program.

Ben’s extensive experience in both public and private sectors has enabled him to gain comprehensive working knowledge of the Queensland Planning System.

Bernadette Prause

  • Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning (Hons)

Graduating from the University of Queensland, Bernadette has extensive statutory and strategic planning experience in Queensland having worked as a Town Planner in several large local authorities including Logan City Council, Townsville City Council, Ipswich City Council and Brisbane City Council.

Prior to forming iPlan with Ben Battist in 2006, Bernadette was a Senior Planner and Delegate in Brisbane City Council’s Development Assessment Teams, and previously a Planner in Council’s Appeals Unit (which included expert witness work) and Urban Renewal Taskforce Team.

In both Ipswich and Townsville City Councils’, Bernadette was also heavily involved in the preparation of both of the local authorities Planning Schemes as well as the preparation of numerous Local Plans, planning scheme policies and conservation projects (associated with both of the local authorities heritage units).

Bernadette also gained valuable private sector experience in a leading Brisbane based planning consultancy where she was primarily involved in the preparation of development applications for lodgement with Brisbane City Council, Ipswich City Council, the former Caboolture Shire Council and Logan City Council.

Like Ben, Bernadette’s extensive planning experience in both local government and the private sector has provided her with a comprehensive working knowledge of the Queensland Planning system. In addition, her working knowledge of several local authorities has proven at times invaluable in the day to day progression of development applications.

Formation of iPlan

In 2006, Ben established iPlan with Bernadette, with iPlan being recognised as one of the first accredited consultants under Risk Smart.
